Research interests: The development of techniques and environments to perform multidisciplinary design optimization (MDO) of aerospace systems. The work in our group attempts to reach this goal using high-fidelity modelling such as field CFD methods for aerodynamics and FEM models for structural calculations.

Professor of History

Area of specialization: comparative urban history of Mexican Americans, African Americans, Asian Americans, and Euro-Americans; also, the study of how race, culture, class and ideology have shaped the Chicano experience.

Other research interests: social history of Chicanos in California cities; biographies of Latina civil rights and labor activists Luisa Moreno and Josefina Fierro; race and ethnicity in the American experience; poverty and homelessness.

Victor G. Carrion

Associate Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Science

Research interests: The interplay between brain development and stress vulnerability via a multi-method approach that includes psychophysiology, neuroimaging, neuroendocrinology and phenomenology. Treatment development that focuses on individual and community-based interventions for stress related conditions in children and adolescents that experience traumatic stress.

Area of specialization: Regional, cohort-based active surveillance program for perinatal HIV infection in Northern California. The epidemiology of poliovirus infection among rural Mexican children and characterization of the humoral immune response to oral trivalent poliovirus vaccine (OPV). The ontogeny of the immune responses to measles virus in young infants.
